In this role you will be responsible for ensuring that you facilitate appropriate and high quality vision hearing
screening services for children within our district.
The focus of the programme is within our early childhood settings / primary schools 4+ year screening, in line
with the before school check screening program and includes audiometry, tympanometry and distance vision.
You will also undertake Year 7 check usually at 11 years of age, including distance vision.
Ideally you will be a certified Vision and Hearing Technician with a current National Certificate Community
Support Services level 3 or be willing to work toward certification which must be completed within 12 months
of commencing.
It is imperative that you have a child friendly rapport and like working with children in early childhood and
schools settings. Furthermore, have a mature outlook to your work embracing this autonomous role, with
ability to work as an effective team member and provide support and cover as required. In addition, ensuring
you have a steady focus on reaching service targets and undertaking robust and timely testing and working in
partnership with Public Health Nurses, administration teams and other population health services.
You’ll need to have exceptional time management, be able to work autonomously and follow up associated
administration, including referrals in a timely fashion. As an excellent communicator you’ll not only be able to
relate to children but also their parents/whanau.
The position requires exceptional detail to accurate documentation and ability to upload information onto
data systems, familiarity with patient management systems and/or other IT systems is an advantage.
This position covers a variety of settings throughout the Southern DHB in the community, so it is essential
that you hold a current, full drivers licence and are able to travel with this position. There is flexibility in how
the part-time hours for the role can be worked.
This role is 48 hours per fortnight, Monday to Friday as rostered. Your normal hours will be 0800- 1700 but due
to the nature of this role you will need to have some flexibility in the hours worked if required.
