Local theatre group Remarkable Theatre will perform ‘Away’ by Michael Gow in the Arrowtown Athenaeum Hall over six nights between 12 and 22 September. The show starts at 7.30pm with a live band, Versificator, performing 60s classics from 7.00pm.
‘Away’ is regarded as one of Australasia’s greatest classics. In the summer of 1967/68, three families from very different social backgrounds head to the beach to get away.
3 mothers – one recovering from the loss of a child, one fearing the loss of her own and one learning to let go are each determined to take this holiday as a restful time, but the pressures of family secrets gather into a storm. The play is dramatic, funny and uplifting. It is directed by Lisa Warrington, one of New Zealand’s most well-renowned theatre directors.
